What‘s AwesomeBox?

AwesomeBox is an entirely new way to give a truly memorable surprise gift. With great ease, a group of friends and family can produce a unique boxset of custom printed cards. Each 5.25x 5.25” card features a photo on the front and personal message on the back. Great for holidays, birthdays, milestone events or just because. Cards can be displayed, shared, and saved as special keepsakes.

What makes AwesomeBox a great gift?
AwesomeBox is “social-by-design" — both online and offline. It’s fun to see all the photos and messages come together in a virtual surprise party! Once delivered, cards can be passed around, talked about, laughed and cried over, shared with friends, and even framed on a wall or placed on a coffee table for display. The collection of cards becomes a time capsule of favorite cherished memories.
Why can't I upload my card?
If you are having trouble uploading a photo or message, please contact us for support and we will be in touch as soon as possible. The more information you can provide about the steps you took to upload a card, the more quickly we'll be able to diagnose and resolve your issue.
Can I use awesomebox.com on my phone?
Yes. On your mobile device you can create two-sided cards and view cards created by others (including tapping them to see the other side).
What are the shipping options and costs?
After undergoing quality assurance, all boxes are shipped for a flat rate of $12 within the continental United States (additional fees may apply in shipping to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico).
Starting a Box
Why does AwesomeBox need access to my photos, etc. on Facebook?

If you want to upload a photo from your Facebook account, we need permissions to access them.

We don't post anything you contribute from our app to Facebook. We only request information that enables our app to be more useful for participants.

Can I use awesomebox.com on my phone?

Yes. On your mobile device you can create a two-sided card and view cards created by others (including tapping them to see the other side).

Can I select 2 or more recipients?

Not yet. We plan to add support for this soon. Please feel free to contact us and we will do all we can to offer a workaround solution.

For what occasions can I give an AwesomeBox?

AwesomeBox can be used to celebrate many occasions including holidays, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, baby showers, memorials, graduations, teacher appreciations, work transitions, retirements, congratulations, thank yous, host/hostess gifts or "just because”.

Will I be able to change my box size or deadline?

Yes. You can change your box size or delivery date anytime prior to the deadline by clicking the settings gear in the AwesomeBox header and selecting the “Settings" button. Changing the delivery date will automatically change the deadline for creating cards to account for production and shipping time.

Should I make cards before inviting friends?

Yes. Friends may be hesitant to add the first card. Making three or more cards before inviting friends helps set the tone for the type of messages and photos you’d like others to contribute. (e.g. inside joke, heartfelt memory, fun story.... Whatever you do will likely be followed by others.)

How long does it take to create an AwesomeBox?

Once all cards have been created, printing and shipping requires 5-6 business days within the Continental US. Internationally, printing & shipping will take 8-9 business days to arrive. When you tell us the delivery date for your AwesomeBox, we automatically calculate the deadline for submitting cards by subtracting out days for printing and shipping. For international shipping, you need to select a delivery date of 3 or more additional business days.

Our users like to have 10-14 days to allow invited participants to create their cards for the AwesomeBox. Example: If you want your AwesomeBox to be delivered on June 20th, our site will calculate the deadline as June 13th (5 business days before). So, starting your AwesomeBox June 1st will give you and your friends 13 days to complete your cards before the deadline.

Can I host or participate in multiple AwesomeBoxes?

Absolutely! Absolutely! To access your AwesomeBox(es), just login and click the menu icon in the upper right of the page.

Is the online group private?

Yes. Only the host and invited participants have access to the private online group. After the deadline (which is determined by the host), AwesomeBox recipients will receive a link to access the group after they get their AwesomeBox in person.

Can I make an AwesomeBox individually? Do I have to invite a group?

Yes, you can make a box individually! AwesomeBox is still one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give and receive, even if only created by one person. We have seen individuals create 100 card AwesomeBoxes in one day!

Making Cards
Why can't I upload my card?
If you are having trouble uploading a photo or message, please contact us for support and we will be in touch as soon as possible. The more information you can provide about the steps you took to upload a card, the more quickly we'll be able to diagnose and resolve your issue.
How can I edit or delete my card?

AwesomeBox Hosts:
Hosts can edit photos and messages on any card, as well as delete any card in the AwesomeBox. Hosts can also edit the signature on cards that they created.

AwesomeBox Participants:
Participants can edit photos, messages, and signatures on cards that they created. They can also delete any card that they created. Participants cannot edit or delete cards created by others.

To make changes, you must be logged in to your AwesomeBox account. Click the white pencil icon on the top-right corner of the card (If you dont see the pencil, you don't have permission to edit the card). Then select the item you would like to change from the menu options. Edits can be made anytime before the box deadline date.

How can I change the signature on my card?
To change the signature on a card you created, click the white pencil icon in the upper right of the card. Then select the "Edit Signature" option from the edit menu and follow the steps. Changing the signature on a card you did not create is not possible.
Can I remove all signatures from the back of the cards?
AwesomeBox hosts can choose to remove names from all cards in the box. Click on the gear icon in the header and select the “Settings” menu item. In the Settings window, uncheck the “Include signatures on cards” option.
Can I choose the card design?

Currently, participants cannot select designs for the message side of AwesomeBox cards. The site chooses card designs based on the amount of text on the card. Some designs accommodate more words, while others are better for just a few words.

Each time a card’s message is edited, a new design and color may be chosen.

How do I crop photos?

When Creating a Card:
After selecting the photo you want to include on your card, an Image Preview window will appear. In that window, drag the corners of the green box or click and drag inside the box to adjust the crop. Click the “Next” button when you are done.

When Editing a Card:
(Participants can only edit cards that they created) Click the white pencil icon on the top-right corner of your card. Select "Edit Photo”. Then select “Adjust Photo”. An Image Preview window will appear. In that window, drag the corners of the green box or click and drag inside the box to adjust the crop. Click the “Next” button when you are done.

Inviting Friends
Should I invite as many people as possible or keep the group small?

Both approaches work great!

We've found that casting the widest net possible has led to the most active boxes, and sometimes unexpected contributions. Ask participants to help you invite more people, and send out reminders to friends you've already invited.

If you keep it small and intimate, remember to ask each friend to contribute five or more cards. When you're counting on fewer people, they need to be reminded to add cards more often.

How do I change my invitation text?

Currently, only hosts can change the invitation text by going to the SETTINGS button on the group project page, changing the invitation message, and clicking UPDATE SETTINGS.

Hosts and participants can preview invitation text by going to the INVITE FRIENDS button on the group project page and selecting “Preview Invite."

Does AwesomeBox send reminders to friends I invited, or should I email them directly?

If you have sent your invitations via the AwesomeBox site, we'll send reminders to your invitees via email. Reminders are sent two days after the first invitation is sent, and again two days prior to the deadline for participating.

An AwesomeBox host can send a reminder at any time. Click on the settings icon Settingsgear in the section at the top of the AwesomeBox page. Click the Send Message button, and you can enter a customer message to be sent to anyone who hasn't participated yet.

Can I send messages to everyone I invited?

Currently, there is not a way for hosts to message the group from within our site.

Workaround: Start an email thread or Facebook group with everyone you invited on our site. This will help you send follow up messages, encourage involvement, and inspire friends to see each others cards.

Completing a Box
When do I need to enter my shipping & payment information?

Shipping and payment information must be added before the deadline to ensure on time printing and delivery. They can be entered by clicking on the settings icon Settingsgear near the top of the AwesomeBox page and selecting the Shipping info or Payment info button.

Can I change my box size or deadline?

Yes. You can change your box size or deadline anytime prior to the deadline by using the "settings" button on the group page.

Can I ship my box early?

If you want to finish and print your AwesomeBox early, you can do so by changing its delivery date. Click on the settings icon Settingsgear near the top of the AwesomeBox page. Click the Box settings button. In the Box settings window, change the delivery date to the soonest available date and save the settings.

What are the shipping options and costs?

At this time, all boxes are shipped for a flat-rate $12 fee for all box sets.

Which cards get printed? / What happens if the box has more cards than the box limit?

Cards are printed in the order they are created: a 25 card box will contain the first 25 cards created. If the number of cards created exceeds the box limit, the host will receive an email letting them know that not all cards will be printed. In that case, for 10, 25, 50, or 75 card boxes, the host can choose to upgrade to the next size up to make sure all cards are printed. Cards that are not printed will always remain in the digital version of the AwesomeBox and be visible on the AwesomeBox page.

In what order will printed cards appear in the box?

Cards are printed in the order in which they are added to the AwesomeBox. The first card added will appear at the top, and the last card added will be at the bottom.

Can AwesomeBox ship internationally? To APOs?

We currently only ship to the Continental US, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada, United Kingdom and Israel. If you want to ship elsewhere, please contact us if to ask if we can do it. Shipping outside Continental US will take 3 or more extra days and cost more. When you set up your AwesomeBox, please enter the shipping address to see more shipping details.

Yes, we can ship to an APO (for people in the armed service), but it will not be listed as an option in the shipping & payment process. Please contact us for details.

What is your return & warranty policy?

Boxsets can be returned within 30 days for any reason except the following:

  1. Returns for damages accrued post-delivery.
  2. Returns for errors shown in the original image or text cards posted to the AwesomeBox group page.

Please review our return policy for details. If your return is in compliance with our policy, we will gladly replace the AwesomeBox at no cost to you. Returns are sent to: Muse Factory, 1242 Market St. 3rd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94102.

Can I delete my box?

If you would like to delete your box in order to start a new one, please contact us and we will delete it for you. Remember, boxes remain open for participants to enjoy after the deadline.

Printed Product
What are the dimensions of the printed cards and box?

Each card is a 5.25x5.25” square with rounded corners. They fit snuggly in an elegant white box that’s 6x6x1.75". Finished cards are a wonderful alternative to the standard coffee table book, and also look great framed or displayed upright on the bookshelf.

Which cards get printed?

All of them within the box size limit! If the number of cards created exceeds the number of cards ordered, (i.e, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100 card box sets) only the top-most cards of your order amount will be printed. You can either upgrade your box set, or in the case of having over 100 cards, create a second box.

How can I display AwesomeBox cards?
If you have any fun ideas, please share them with us!
IDEA 1: Frame cards
  • Frame cards individually or in groups, then display them in your home or office.
  • For variety, occasionally swap out which cards are framed and share them with friends.
IDEA 2: Mural Display
  • Gather your boxset and a large piece of cloth.
  • Attach cards in a grid formation, then attach the cloth to a wall in your home.
IDEA 3: Coffee Table Centerpiece
  • For a conversation centerpiece, present your cards on living room coffee table where it can be easily viewed and share with those who visit your home.
IDEA 4: Clothespin Room Display
  • Gather a handful of clothespins and length of ribbon.
  • Using those materials, string a number of cards across your room or elegantly strung against a wall.
IDEA 5: Appreciation & Gratitude
  • Keep the boxset on your bed stand or coffee table.
  • Pull one out each day as a reminder to be grateful that you have friends and family who think you’re awesome!
What are some ideas for surprising the AwesomeBox recipient?
IDEA 1: The Dinner Party
  1. Invite a friends and family over for dinner.
  2. Gather everyone around and ask each person to pull a card from a hat.
  3. Have everyone read or act-out something in the card.
  4. Most importantly, have fun!
IDEA 2: The Prank
  1. Give one card every 30 minutes to the recipient, who won't suspect the full surprise.
  2. Have fun continuing to deliver the cards one-by-one until the recipient catches on and says, "So, what is all this?"
  3. Put them all in the box and tell the story of secretly planning to make an AwesomeBox as a group.
IDEA 3: The Art Party
  1. Along with the printed boxset, you could buy 50 blank cards with just the designed backgrounds or white ones.*
  2. Invite friends over to make new cards using pens and colored markers (Sharpies work great!).
  3. Combine the new handmade cards with the printed cards for an extra touch of personalization.
  4. Present the gift!

It’s also great to document the experience - receiving an AwesomeBox is a very special and often surreal experience, something the recipient may want to relive in photos and videos (and we encourage you to share your experiences with us and perhaps we can use your material in our marketing campaigns!)
